Cloves Adulteration: Are your cloves adulterated with used cloves?

Indian spices are full of medicinal properties, and one such spice is ‘Clove’. It’s a blackish/brown, aromatic pod that is also mentioned in Ayurveda and is considered as an effective remedy for bad breath, tooth decay, and effective digestion and more. It is also an integral part of immunity-boosting Kadha. With so many benefits, clove is surely a magical and pure spice that deserves all appreciation. But, do you know that even this spice is being adulterated in the market? As per reports, clove oil is extracted from the pods and further, the nutrient-less pods are sold in the market. The question of concern is, how can you spot that it’s a used clove? To make it simple for the common man, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has started an initiative on Twitter and is called #DetectingFoodAdulterants. Under this, every week they share a quick test that you can try to check whether your food is adulterated or not. Recently, they shared a test video on how to detect clove adulteration with used cloves at home. Read to know more. (Image: istock)
