The recently released trailer promises to show the mental battle a victim of sexual abuse constantly fights as leading life on her own terms becomes a distant past.
The trailer starts with Piyali being sexually harassed and she wakes up from coma only to find she is pregnant.
While Gaurav Chakrabarty’s character, an advocate, tries to help her get an abortion, senior advocate Ritabrata (Santilal Mukherjee) wants to fight for the rights of the unborn child.
Meanwhile, Piyali gets shelter at a care home and finds support from Sreelekha Mitra’s character while Ritabrata’s assistant (Priyanka Sarkar) decides to help Gaurav fight a legal battle. They want Piyali to go back to normal life rather than struggling with the responsibilities of forced motherhood.
There are also some glimpses of a subplot showing how the Mahabharat episode of Draupadi is being dishonored in Jatra palas for entertainment.
As we see in the trailer, Anshuman has tried to shift from his usual action-packed stories and make a statement on the changes that need to be highlighted more to make our society more secure for women.
Nirbhaya is set to release in theatres this month.
