Journalist leaders have no reason to worry about bank accounts: Information Minister

Information Minister Hasan Mahmud said there was no cause for concern over the bank account summons of journalist leaders. He was speaking as the chief guest at the annual general meeting of the Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) at the National Press Club auditorium on Thursday noon.

At the meeting, Farida Yasmin, President of the National Press Club, wanted to know the statement of the Information Minister regarding the bank account summons of the journalist leaders. He wants to know the reason why the names and titles of the journalist leaders were written next to Awami League and BNP. At that time, journalist leader Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul also drew the attention of the Information Minister to find out the reason why the bank accounts of leaders of only one profession were summoned.

In response, Information Minister Hasan Mahmud said, ‘Bank accounts of MPs, politicians and businessmen are summoned. But I also question why the leaders of the journalists’ organizations were brought together. I have tried to find out the matter by looking in magazines like yours. But I don’t think that’s a cause for concern. I know those whose bank accounts have been summoned. I am aware of their financial condition. I don’t think there is any cause for concern. ‘

President of the organization Quddus Afrad, General Secretary Sajjad Alam Khan among others addressed the annual general meeting of DUJ.
