Remand of Pori Moni : Two judges were given a week to submit a written explanation

The Dhaka High Court was scheduled to hear on Sunday the explanation of two Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrates and the investigating officer regarding the second and third remand of the TV actress Parimani in the Narcotics Control Act case. However, there was no hearing today.

Lawyers for the two judges filed a one-week (not this week) RJ today. The High Court bench comprising Justice Mostafa Zaman Islam and Justice ASM Abdul Mobin granted time in the light of the RG.

On September 29, the High Court said the two metropolitan magistrates would have to explain again. Time is being given for this. The matter will come up for the next order on October 24. The High Court asked the investigating officer (Qazi Golam Mustafa) to give an explanation within the stipulated date (October 24).

In today’s agenda of the same bench of the High Court, Parimani’s application rose to No. 12 for the order. The judge had filed the bail application in the High Court seeking a late hearing in the case.

Lawyer Abdul Alim Mia Jewel filed a one-week plea on behalf of the two judges when the court proceedings began. The court granted it. Assistant Attorney General was on behalf of the state at the time. Mizanur Rahman.

Later, Abdul Alim Mia Jewel, a lawyer for the two judges, told Prothom Alo: The court granted one week time. The written explanation will be submitted to the court.

The two judges asked to explain are Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Debabrata Biswas and Atiqul Islam.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Debabrata Biswas granted two days remand to Parimani in the second phase and Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Atiqul Islam granted one day remand in the third phase.

Investigating officer Kazi Golam Mustafa has already submitted a written explanation to the court, multiple sources said.
On August 4, RAB raided Parimani’s house in Banani. He was later shown arrested in a case under the Narcotics Control Act.

In this case, Parimani was remanded for a total of seven days including four days in the first phase, two days in the second phase and one day in the third phase.

Parimani appealed to the High Court against the judge’s order setting a late date for hearing the bail application in the case. The High Court ruled in this regard.

Later, the judge brought forward the date of hearing on the bail application of the bride. He was granted bail on August 31. Parimani was released the next day.

On the other hand, during the hearing of Parimani’s application in the High Court, questions were raised about her being remanded in stages. On September 2, the High Court sought a written explanation from the two judges on granting the second and third remand. The two judges gave explanations, which were presented in the High Court on September 15. However, the High Court was not satisfied with their explanation in the first phase.
