Rumors spread on social media that four members of the same family, including a 10-year-old child, had been raped in Chandpur’s Hajiganj upazila. Rumors also spread that the child had died. Ruhidas Banik, president of the Hajiganj branch of the Bangladesh Puja Celebration Council, described the matter as a rumor in a video statement on social media.
After the rumors of rape spread, the media workers gathered in Hajiganj. They spoke with local administration, health department officials and public representatives. But no one could confirm any such incident. Everyone calls it a rumor.
Satyabrata Bhadra, general secretary of Hajiganj Upazila Hindu-Christian-Buddhist Unity Parishad, told reporters that there was no incident of rape in any family anywhere in Hajiganj Upazila.
Hajiganj Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Harunur Rashid said, “It is a big rumor that four members of the same family have been raped. We sent people everywhere. No such rape was reported. No such complaint has been lodged with the police station.
Chittagong Additional DIG Iqbal Hossain told reporters, “We have seen the matter on social media. In reality, no such incident has taken place anywhere. Everyone has been harassed by spreading rumors.
Chandpur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anjana Khan Majlish said, ‘The matter is a complete rumor. Meanwhile, the concerned officials and people’s representatives of the upazila have confirmed that no such incident has taken place anywhere in Chandpur.
