At least 16 people have been killed in floods triggered by heavy rains over three days in Uttarakhand, India. These deaths took place from Monday to Tuesday. Meanwhile, local authorities feared the death toll could rise further as they were trapped under rubble in the flood-hit area.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dami told ANI that the Prime Minister and the Home Minister have been apprised of the situation here. At least 18 people died in the incident. Three army helicopters have been deployed in the rescue operation.
The Chief Minister accompanied by State Education Minister Dan Singh Rawat and the Chief of Police visited the affected areas by helicopter. After the inspection, he told reporters that the floods had damaged the crops of the farmers.
However, the Meteorological Department’s forecast also received some relief today. They said the amount of rainfall would be significantly reduced in some places without heavy rainfall. The hilly areas have been most affected by the heavy rains.
As seen in various pictures spread on social media, the roads and houses have been submerged. The bridges have been damaged and the rivers have overflowed in the rains.
Roads leading to the tourist area of Nainital have been cut off due to landslides. Meanwhile, road communication with Kaladungi, Haldawani and Bawali was also cut off due to the landslide.
