Actress Kangana Ranaut, who was summoned by the Delhi legislative assembly’s Committee on Peace and Harmony today, has sought more time.

Raghav Chadha, who heads the committee, said in a statement that Ranaut’s lawyer informed them in a letter that the actress cannot appear before the panel due to ‘personal and professional commitments.’ She has sought more time. The committee will now inform the star of its decision in a letter.

The actress was summoned on December 6 at 12pm over alleged hateful posts on social media. In its notice, Chadha said that the statements purportedly posted by her had caused agony and hurt the sentiments of people from the Sikh community, potentially leading to a situation of disruption of peace and harmony in Delhi.

The summons mentioned that the committee had received “numerous complaints eliciting, inter alia, outrageously offensive and derogatory Instagram stories/posts allegedly by yourself on November 20, 2021”.

According to the complainants, the “stories” published by Ranaut on her Instagram profile, which is followed by around 80 lakh people worldwide, specifically illustrate instances that hurt the religious sentiments of Sikh community.

As reported by TOI, Ranaut was asked by the committee to appear before it “to deliberate on the present issue in a more comprehensive and coherent manner”.

According to the complaints, Kangana had allegedly labelled the Sikh community as “Khalistani terrorists”, which led to ‘humiliation’ and ‘apprehensions regarding their safety, life and liberty’.
