A number of Bengali versions of the Lankan runaway hit ‘Manike Mage Hithe’ have already been released and they are outdoing one another while some have even gone viral. Among the hit ones, Ronit Basak’s cover version has created a wave in Bengal.

Basak, popularly known as JJ RoNN among the Hip Hop-RnB enthusiasts in Kolkata, has remixed the original song with Odisha’s ‘Rangabati’ song which became superhit after it was used in Shiboprasad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy’s film ‘Gotro’.

Ronit says, “Frankly speaking I didn’t understand the Lankan lyrics but the catchy tune and the cute singer just moved me. So I decided to write my own lyrics — ‘Tomar oi korun chokhe/Mon amar jeno geche bhesey, akashey’. Music producer Axation then remade Chamath Sangeeth’s beat for my version.”

The young rapper’s video has already garnered more than 4 million views. He has now remixed it with ‘Lilabali’, ‘Noya daman’, ‘Ogo tomar akash duti chokhe’and ‘Faguner o mohonay’ and have included his rap too in it.

‘Manike Mage Hithe’, the original Sinhala song was uploaded on YouTube earlier in May this year. The music video sent social media into a frenzy and gained massive popularity all over the world and it even inspired musicians in Bengal as well. Meanwhile, Sinhalese singer Yohani de Silva of the runaway hit will soon make her Bollywood debut in the upcoming Ajay Devgn film ‘Thank God’.
