Indian politician, fashion designer, and member of the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), Shaina NC was in the news recently when she lent support to Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Zonal Director Sameer Wankhede after allegations of corruption cropped up against him. ETimes reached out to Shaina to ask for her opinions in the ongoing Aryan Khan case.

Speaking about the involvement of Shah Rukh Khan’s son, Shaina said, “This is not about Aryan Khan. This is about getting rid of the drug menace in society in terms of the supply chain and that is the job of the NCB”. Like before, she offered complete support to NCB’s vigil against the drug menace and added, “The NCB has to do away with the real culprits, the peddlers, and suppliers who are trying to destabilise the youth of the country.”

Shaina was also quick to point out that the NCB was not out to vilify anyone. She said, “As far as the youth is concerned, I think we need to have a reformative approach, but not by stigmatising them. We have to, at the same time, try to get rid of the root cause”. We asked her about the several political allegations levelled by Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Nawab Malik against Wankhede and NCB’s investigation and Shaina pointed out, “Look at Sameer Wankhede’s track record… no case for bribery no case of misappropriation. The NCP has made it into a ‘NCP vs NCB’ case, which is unfair.” She added, “The police get demoralised when they are doing their job; calling him Sameer Dawood Wankhede, a parrot of the BJP and that they will put him behind bars in a month… all these statements digress from the core issue. And the core issue is that the matter is subjudice; you, me or nobody can form judgements.”

A lot of fans and followers have expressed the opinion that NCB’s drugs case has become high-profile because SRK’s son is involved. Speaking about this, Shaina said, “That the case has become big because Aryan Khan is Shah Rukh Khan’s son, is a debatable issue. The point is, the matter is subjudice and who are we to decide on anything?” But she does add that the situation is far from being conducive to the young man. She said, “I feel sorry for him because one has to have a reformative approach. He is not a hardened criminal. In any way that being a viewpoint, the BJP believes this is not a political issue, it’s more a societal stigma, but there needs to be the fear of the law for all. That’s why let the law take its course”.

There’s also a contrasting perception that the film industry and its supporters feel that Wankhede and the NCB are targeting Bollywood celebrities. To this, Shaina said, “I don’t think anyone wants to target either. As I said, this has become a political slugfest. Even the witness in the case comes to social media, ideally he should have his prayer in court first”.
