Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra made waves when she added her husband Nick Jonas‘ surname after marriage. Interestingly, when she decided to drop the name from her social media handles and public profiles last evening, it created as big a stir.

Fans around the world seemed ‘shocked’ by the actress’ abrupt decision to drop her husband’s last name, giving rise to speculation of a divorce on the cards. However, mommy Chopra came to the rescue and shot down all those rumours and dubbed them ‘rubbish’.

While global news portals have been speculating if PeeCee decision to drop the ‘Jonas’ surname was a branding decision or just a personal call, throwback reports of the actress defending her move to adopt her husband’s name resurfaced online.

Shortly after her grand wedding in 2018, Priyanka was asked by talk show host Jimmy Fallon why she took on Nick’s surname. To this, she replied, “I always wanted to add his name to mine because I feel, like, you know, we’re becoming family, and I’m a little traditional and old school like that. But I don’t take away my identity. He gets added to who I am.”

In another pod-cast following the release of her memoir, the actress gushed about what it was like to see her full name in print for the first time.

“The first time I saw it, I was like, ‘Oh, oh ok, that’s my name now,’ ” she said.

She also explained that when it came to the decision of her last name, she wanted to ‘honour traditions’ and at the same time she also revealed that she didn’t want to let go of her Chopra identity and hence settled for something “in-between”.
