The body of a female doctor named Mahfuza Akhter was recovered from Khilkhet in the capital, a friend asked to search for her over the phone. At the request of that friend, the classmate of the next room went and saw that the door of Mahfuzar’s room was locked from inside. After the door was broken down, he was found strangled.
Mahfuza Akter, 25, passed MBBS from Mymensingh Medical College two years ago. He was preparing for the admission test for FCPS course from a house in Nikunja area of Khilkhet with some classmates. Their village home is in Gazipur district. His family lives in Kadamtali, Dhaka. Mahfuza was the eldest of three siblings.
Police recovered his body from his home around 6pm on Saturday. The body was handed over to the family on Sunday afternoon after an autopsy at Dhaka Medical College. At that time, Prothom Alo talked to the resident of Mahfuzar’s house and his classmate Rumpa Rani.
Rumpa Rani said about the incident, ‘Mahfuzar had a quarrel with his friend. The family was talking about her marriage with the boy. The boy called me and told me that there was a quarrel between the two. He said that at one stage of the quarrel, Mahfuza had committed suicide by hanging himself. He told me to go to his room and look for him. ‘
After hearing this, Rumpa left. Mahfuzar went to open the door of the room and saw it closed from inside. He said in the first light, ‘I was not getting any response even after shouting a lot. I could hear his phone ringing from outside. But not picking up the phone. Later I broke down the door with everyone around me and saw him hanging by his neck. When informed later, the police came and recovered his body.
Khilkhet police sub-inspector (SI) Sabrina Rahman told Prothom Alo, ‘I have talked to Mahfuzar’s parents. I wanted to know if they suspected anyone of committing suicide. As they had no complaint, the body was handed over to the family after autopsy. A case of unnatural death has been registered at the police station in this incident.
Mahfuzar’s father Nur Ahmed Khan told Prothom Alo, ‘My daughter was in a very cold mood.
