Madurai/Chennai. Senior AIADMK leader O. Panneerselvam said on Monday that the party’s leadership will discuss and decide on the reintroduction of VK Sasikala, a confidante of former chief minister late J Jayalalithaa. Sasikala has declared herself general secretary of AIADMK and is trying to regain control of the party. Meanwhile, Panneerselvam’s statement assumes significance as his party colleague K. Palaniswami had completely ruled out the possibility of Sasikala returning to the party a few days ago.

Asked about Sasikala’s political moves, Panneerselvam told reporters in Madurai that anyone can join politics but whether it is accepted or not, it is in the hands of the people. He said that since the time of founder MG Ramachandran, AIADMK is a cadre based party and now it is being run on the basis of an organizational structure which has a coordinator and co-coordinator. Panneerselvam is also the coordinator of the party.

On the question of re-inclusion of Sasikala in AIADMK, he said that it will be discussed. He said that a decision would be taken on this issue after talking to the high leaders and office bearers of AIADMK. Senior AIADMK leader D Jayakumar told reporters in Chennai that it was Panneerselvam who started the ‘dharma yudh’ in 2017 against Sasikala and her faction.

He said Panneerselvam had put a condition to break ties with Sasikala for the unity of the faction led by Panneerselvam and the camp of former Chief Minister Palaniswami. A visit to the memorial of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa at Chennai’s Marina on October 16 by expelled AIADMK (AIADMK) leader VK Sasikala has sparked speculation in the political circles. Sasikala was seen entering the memorial with the AIADMK flag on her vehicle. During this, slogans of ‘AIADMK General Secretary Tyag Thai Chinnamma’ were being raised by his supporters. With tears in her eyes, Jayalalithaa’s close aide was seen paying floral tributes to the political maestro of her time.
