Destructive acts for desecrating the Qur’an are unacceptable in Islam: Cabinet Secretary

Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam said any destructive act to desecrate the Qur’an was completely unacceptable in Islam. It is sedition. And fitna is the biggest crime.
He was speaking to reporters at a press conference after the cabinet meeting on Tuesday.

Khandaker Anwarul Islam said, ‘If anyone insults the Qur’an, the Qur’an has not given me any authority to go and break anything of his religion. That will fall into fitna. That would be a bigger crime. Everyone should take care of that. ‘ “If anyone insults my religion, I can protest,” he said. I can demand from the government that he should be arrested and punished. But I will go and do some destructive work, it is completely unacceptable in Islam. It is sedition. Fitna is the biggest crime.

Last Wednesday, a group of people attacked a puja mandapa in Comilla alleging insult to the Holy Quran. As a result, temples, puja mandals and Hindu community settlements have been attacked, vandalized and set on fire in different parts of the country for several days.

According to the cabinet secretary, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan to take stern action against those responsible for the recent incidents of vandalism of puja mandals and arson of Hindu houses in different districts of the country.

Khandaker Anwarul Islam said, “The cabinet meeting has made it clear to the home ministry that it has been said before that very strict measures have to be taken. Those involved must be caught. The Prime Minister has asked for immediate action against those who initiated these incidents. At the same time, religious and political figures have been urged not to react in such a way as to make a small “twist” in order to exchange views with the public. It is not allowed by any religion.
