Russia, the country’s main rival, also wants to compete with the United States in shooting movies in space. That’s why a Russian actress and director went to the International Space Station on Tuesday to shoot the first movie outside the world.
The two men who went to the space station are actress Yulia Peresild (38) and director Klim Shipenko (38). To reach the space station, the two of them started their journey from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at around 3 pm Bangladesh time today. The spacecraft carrying them arrived at the space station at 6:12 pm.
NASA announced last year that it would shoot a movie in space as part of a Hollywood project. Popular American actor Tom Cruise was also reportedly sent into space to shoot a movie for the ‘Mission Impossible’ series. For this, NASA and millionaire Elon Musk’s Space-X are working together. Russia’s move is seen as a step in the right direction.
The Russian team is led by astronaut Anton Shakplerov. In this 12-day mission, they will tour the spacecraft Soyuz MS-19. The movie they will shoot in space is called The Challenge.
“Space is an interesting place for me,” Yulia Peresild said in a statement broadcast by Russia’s space research agency Roskomos. There are no borders. I have been selected out of three thousand people for the role of the movie.
“Our goal is not just to make movies, we need to get back to the living world,” said astronaut Shakplerov. Yulia and Shipenko are expected to return to Earth on October 16.
